Henry “Harry” Norman Forbes enlisted with the Dragoons in Hamilton Ontario at age 17. He served overseas with the Nova Scotia 25th Battalion, was injured in a mustard gas attack and sent to England for hospitalization where he met a nurse, Charlotte Alice Cackett – from Ashfordkent England. They were married in Stoney Creek, Ontario after returning to Canada from the war.
Harry worked for the railroad after the Great War.
In the Second World War, he moved to Winnipeg and put ammunition together. Harry and Charlotte had three children: Eileen, Mary, and William Norman Forbes.
Charlotte died in 1927.
William served in the Second World War with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons and drove an armoured car.
Eileen joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in the Second World War and she was there until the war was over. She was stationed in England. Eileen worked in the nursing station, laundry, kitchen, and in a field station.
She met Walter Wilhelm Witt over there and he was part of the Royal Regina Rifles. William met his future wife and they moved to Detroit.
Harry moved back to Ontario after the Second World War.
Harry died in 1952.
