James Carthew

James Carthew was Laura Secord's great-grandson. He was also the third cousin to Princess Diana's great-grandmother.


James Carthew was born in Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan on January 1, 1896. His family moved to Wabamun, Alberta from Qu'Apelle in 1906. Carthew’s father was the doctor for the entire rural area including the Native reserve. Carthew had three sisters and one brother.

During the war Carthew was a pilot. He died May 3rd when his plane crashed on a runway in England. He was buried in England and the propeller from his plane was his grave marker.
