Web Links to Maps - Location Location Location
Genealogy is often about knowing where to look. I find there is an extra kick when you can pin-point their location on a map. I thought having a list of maps where our ancestors can be found would be a great help.

This is a 1702 seigneurial map of the Island of Montreal. Its location is found on the web site of the «Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec». If the link below does not work try looking for this« Description généralle de l'Isle de Montreal divisée par costes où sont exactement marquées toutes les distances de place en place avec le meilleur ordre que l'on a peu observé »

Ancestral Atlas

I havent subscribed to this site yet, so I am not sure if it will link up your inputed ancestors travels or not....but I love the concept and when I finish inputting all my family tree data onto the website I am going to give it a try. Only 1000 places left to find.

This site originates in the UK and it is free to register, however, it costs money to have the site link up the location you have uploaded onto the webpage. Once you are registed and signed in you can upload your gedcom file up to the site. Uploading and getting the site to accept your gedcom may take a bit of time. I made the mistake of answering yes to «you have 847 locations like this one do you want to link it». Dont do it. I have to redo most of the locations. Any location with the word «Quebec» in it went to the one location in Quebec. So it didnt save me any time at all.

I have found gravesites that previously I couldnt remember where they physically were. Now I can pass on their location along with their latitude and longitude.

Great site to check out.
